Serious Science - Superior Water

Superior Water for Every Household Use

Serious Science VS. Pseudoscience

Many vendors are offering water-conditioning devices installed in or attached to the water supply line to replace traditional softeners. These physical or "saltless" devices are based on treatment methods that involve no scientifically understood or provable chemical processes. An April 2011 article published in WaterTech online by Stephen Lower, a retired physical chemistry professor, discussed physical water treatment science & pseudoscience.

Excerpts include:

  • Conditioning of water can refer to any treatment that alters its composition in order to render it appropriate for a specific use.
  • Physical and "saltless" water conditioning (PWC) refers to treatment methods that involve no direct chemical processes and which in most cases can be provided by a device that is install in or attached to a water- supply line.
  • The lack of credible scientific support for the efficacy of present-day PWC devices stands in stark contrast to the claims made by most vendors of these products.
